Why should anyone get special treatment from the law?

On this week's show, we talked about R. Kelly's ridiculous trek through the justice system and Paris Hilton's attempt to manipulate the system. We've all heard the stories about celebs who dance through the raindrops when they get in trouble.

What's the deal here? Is fame a get out of jail free card? Sometimes it's seems like it's even worse to be famous, but then you think of all the free passes celebrities get and I don't know...

We seem to worship the tabloid Kings and Queens. Regrettably, you mix mega-stardom with a starry-eyed judge and our legal system becomes so unstable. There is no justification for this. Even when they do serve time, it's less like the institution you or I would be subject to, but more like a vacation in a swag resort.

What about the Prince Harry situation? Do you think in that instance a celebrity should get a "get out of "military" free card? If he becomes a target and is killed, does the focus become something entirely different?

If Elvis can do it, so can Harry.

But Harry chose to be in the Army, AFAIK.
He may have been under pressure to join, but he was certainly not legally obliged to do so.

Prince Harry eh? Well hes not only a celebrity, he is also royalty and such also a part of England as a whole, Harry dying would be a blow against the people of England, but him also going shows how he will go and do what his "people" do.

Paris on the other hand, come on! its only 45 days, not the maximum of 90. So far, the way i see it, shes having a break already. Do the crime, be ready to do the time, unless your rich apparently

If anything the law should come down harder on celebrities because they are public figures that should be setting standards. Now the argument can be made that most are just entertainers and not role models but the second you seek fame (which is given to you by the people) you have a responsibility to those people. But this doesn't just go for famous people...it goes for all people of wealth and influence.
Ever see the Chappelle show ep where they show how white people and black people get treated differently when they are arrested? Beyond color it is really an economic issue, more classism than anything. The rich always get treated better. Hell...people even give rich celebrities things for free just because of who they are but they won't give the homeless guy a dime.

I hope someone makes Paris Hilton their bitch.
I really do hate her very much.

She contributes NOTHING of value to society. She's famous because she has the money to pay for a good PR agency.

The "leaked" sex tape didn't hurt her popularity either.

The way I personally see it: Yes, Paris Hilton should go to jail and serve her full sentence. I don't understand/ never understood why people look up to her.

I also think Prince Harry should serve if he wants to. That's his personal decision. I AM trying to understand what kind of other "issues" it may cause. Does it really put his mates in harms way as it's being stated in the news? I tend to think that that's not even the point... but seems like for many this is a big focus.

One more thing: In this last episode I mistakingly said "England" instead of "UK". Want to thank Flamekebab for pointing that out. It'll be a note correction in the next episode.

I feel kinda bad for pointing it out, but I know in some places here in Scotland, being English is enough of an excuse for someone to pick a fight (I have a strong English accent!). It can be similar in Wales, but there's less negative feeling there. Not sure about Northern Ireland (I don't know if you know, but part of Ireland is part of the UK, the rest is a separate country).

Prince Harry is planning on a career in the military, I believe. I don't think there's any question that Prince William would never be allowed to serve on the front lines. But if Harry wants to do his duty with his regimen, he should be allowed, imo.
