Our first sponsor this week! What do you think of sponsors for JETSET?

This is the first week we've ever run ad banners or had a sponsor to help us make a living off the show. What do you guys think? We were never against sponsors, we have always been looking for the *right* sponsors. Stuff that has relevance and stuff that people might care about. Of course you can never please everyone, but we definitely want to hear from you guys about the ad banners, the War trailer in this week's show, and your thoughts on it. Thanks!

horrible.

ok just kidding, but really, pre roll? ouchh........ thats like saying you dont care about the viewers! =o but i know you do. : )

the movie is.. well whatever.

post roll, i think is the best way to go. if its in the beginning, it has to be hella short. yeah thats right. hella. : )

well, we wouldn't put a pre-roll ahead of the entire show, but I guess I can understand why this might have felt like a pre-roll since it was early in the show. Technically, what we did this week is called "first position" which isn't pre-roll before the show starts, but comes before mid-roll, which is in the middle of the show.

yeah i know what you mean, but * holds breath * looming in the pre roll area is just hard for me to swallow. i realize that you guys need ads to actually put food on the table so i dont have a problem with that, but postroll and we're all good. hell if its postroll it could be anything.

Yeah, we will be fighting pre-rolls as much as possible. Advertisers aren't crazy about post-rolls right now, but we also prefer them above all else.

Steve and Zadi - do what you think it right. But don't sell out.

I think that if you can turn their "ad" into a segment for JetSetShow, then I think that would work out best for everyone.

Kung Fu movie? Kung Fu segment. Love story? Love story segment (listen up Bill Cammack!).

Very good job!

Oh, if you do sell out, split your show into a sponsored one and a non-sponsored one. Bring back Infinity+1!

haha - taking me back a ways, now. :)

don't see really anything massively wrong with it .. . as long as mix doesn't become a huge billboard for something, than that's no good .. .

just don't jump the shark .. . by having 4 minutes worth of ads and a minute worth of something

Sponsors = Money which = Better JetSet.

I trust you guys to make the right decision when it comes to things like this and I think sponsorship is something that will help jetset in the long run.

Also just to through this comment in there. JetSet doesn't always load as fast as I would like it which ends up Trapping Zadi in some creepy looking stills.

I see why that was perceived as pre-roll, when clearly it wasn't. If "first position" occurs around 15 seconds into the program, and then there's a 15-second commercial, you kind of 'forget' that the show started at all, or the beginning seems like a preamble to the commercial.

I happen to be a Jet Li fan (Legend of Fong Sai Yuk) and also a Jason Statham fan (Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels), so in this case, the trailer had my full attention. I can imagine it might seem strange or annoying to someone not as into seeing both actors team up in a film.

Not that I know *ANYTHING* about advertising in videoblogs, but I feel like ads towards the front should be shorter, and ads towards the back should be longer. I've personally never minded "This week's [title] has been brought to you by [company]", running for 5 seconds in the front of a video. I like how Fast Lane Daily does it (or, DID it the last time I checked), which seems to be some kind of 60/40 split with the 15-second commercial seeming to appear more than halfway through the video. In that case, they give you a lot of show before the 15 seconds, and then they "throw" to the commercial and come out of it, preparing you for it. To me, that 60/40 seems to be a good position for everyone involved, because, for the advertiser, the viewer's still viewing (since it's before the credits, as opposed to post-roll) and for the viewer, they've already been treated to enough "show" that they're willing to take a break and keep watching 15 seconds later.

Another thing is how seamless the transition is from "show" to "commercial". In this case, it's going to be very different, because it goes from Zadi in the park, being filmed hand-held in a videobloggish fashion to a male voiceover announcer, music and sound fx in the background, different aspect ratio video, different film quality, different editing speed.... I think it gets the job done as far as delivering the advertiser's content, at the expense of feeling like it's delivering the advertiser's content. :)

I think the banner on the actual site is great. It meshes with your color scheme, and gets top billing while the video, which is the main thing people came for, is still visible and immersive.

There aren't many examples of this, so you guys are on the leading edge... again... as usual. :) First-position, 15-second advertisements may very well become standard or staple. At this point, to me, it feels like the first 15 seconds are an introduction to the commercial and then the show starts afterwards, which is why it's perceived as pre-roll.

Of course, there's another issue, which is that it's a big deal to get a sponsor, and you WANT to announce to people watching your show that this is the first time you've had a sponsor, and you're happy about that, and here's their product. So, past this episode, there's the opportunity to use the first 15 seconds differently, making the next 15 of advertisement more seamless.

Congrats! :D

Guys, thanks so much fro your input on this. We can't express how helpful it is at this moment in time in the new media landscape. Please keep the ideas coming. People are listening.

What are your ideal sponsorship scenarios. What would they look like? How would they be implemented into a show. How can we make the experience better for everyone??

oh dammit you made me sign up! - i wanted to respond. you know what model i would use. give normal quality content away for free - HD version for a $1 an episode. easy as. get people used to the idea. micropayments will always win. Also have some really TRICKED out flash thing that shows donations. eyecandy and being able to put something in always work with me. it's a nice feeling/feedback thing.

Whatever you do you will always succeed. I have faith in that.
