What is up with bands not wanting people to download the music they make. I think that is so dumb. Especaly that there are so many bands these days that sound fine on a record but in real life Suck Really BAD! I mean as a musican i want people to download my music. I say we should make money on shows and if someone likes us enof to actully go out and by the CD. I know that if i like someone enof i will buy the CD, just for the fact of supporting them and having the actule lable and case. You guys know what i'm talking about. I mean if you cant play your music live, then you dont deserve to be making all that money, and you dont deserve to be a musician. Does everyone agree with me?

What bands are you talking about, specifically?

I was just on Ben Weasel's (formerly of Screeching Weasel) myspace page and he has all his new stuff available for download, for free. Many other artists are doing just the same as he.

As said you're a bit late on the discussion.

But if you think that all the piracy doesn't influence sales and if someone likes the album they'll buy it anyway, then you're wrong.

Album sales today are very low compared to a few years ago.

that's because music keeps getting shittier

Regardless of whether they can play music live or not, they still made the music you are listening to.

See thats the thing tho. They cant make music, they have a huge indisty behind them making them sound good and marketing the shit out of them. With all the money they put into it. You can make Willam Hung sound good. I mean look around, the big bands you see today dont last very long. The big bands you saw yesterday, still have big following, many CD, and if not dead, still around.

now do you mean dowload like limewire or itunes because bands adverise on there site to buy their music on itunes.

Let's face the facts here. A band or musician does not profit off the sail of a single CD unless he's small time. Major labels only profit off of sails to their distributor. If you were to steal a CD from Wall Mart, you would not be stealing from the artist but from Wall Mart itself, because major chains buy the CDs in bulk. By the time they hit the shelves the the artist is paid. If Wall Mart doesn't sell any CDs, then they stop ordering them from the artists label, hence the end of their profits.

Fact: If you have NO intention of buying a CD in the first place, the album will stay on the Wall Mart shelve weather you download it or not.

Is that a good argument for downloading?

Actually no. The artists profit does depend on how many albums they sell. First off most artists do get a percentage from the sales of albums. And indirectly, the deals with record-labels depend on sales as well. A label wants the best selling artists and will therefor pay more to them.

But the sales are in bulk, not on a CD by CD type situation. Best selling artists are far a few between, most musicians are not the top 100 billboard sellers. Not even close.

Yeah i mean walmart will buy so many CDs if they think they will sell, and depending on what kind of contract you have signed if you are a musican, would directly effect if you get a percentage of sells or not. I'll tell you tho, companys are out to get theirs, not help you.
