Hi Wilson - what would you use to set up the chat room and how do you see it working? We've talked over the idea of a chatroom for MIX before -- a widget or a third party tool we can integrate into the MIX Ning site. I was always a little worried that if not enough people used it, it might make it look like there wasn't much going on on MIX. Maybe now that we have a lot of people on the site that's not a concern.

Let me know what you think -- we're always open to members of the community taking a part in how this all comes together. :)

For my ning group, I added a Skype chat room. It works well, but we are a smaller group.

yeah sounds like a good deal, and after every mix episode instead of just a mix discussion thru here it could be live yup yup pretty sweet like my old nana... whos non exsistant but that dosnt mean this shouldnt haha

a chat room would be a cool idea.....but if the forums started to suffer from this i would vote to remove it.

I wouldn't use it and I don't think a lot of people would either. Most of the communities I've run in the past haven't benefited from a chat room than an occasional conversation. Chats are old school and unless you have an active topic then it doesn't make sense to have one.

Chats are definitely cool for things like "Live Shows" and such.

You're right about the having a active topic. So it'll be available during live shows. I'm completely new to MIX so I don't know when or what live shows are. If someone could explain that to me it would be appreciated.

How do you normally do live shows?

We've only done one live show so far as a kind of experiment, but it was a lot of fun. We have plans to do regular live shows, though. We will use one of the live streaming services and they come with a chat room along with the video.

If a lot of people feel a chat room will be of value on MIX we'll try it out. My personal opinion is that I think they are great around events, but I'm not sure enough people would find it useful on an everyday basis.

Love to hear more opinions, tho.

Estimated Sr. Woolf, it came to me the other day, that instead a of having a chat room, there could be a kind-of live, all topic forum kind of thing. In better terms, I imagine it like a window at the start of the forum topics, that has a side bar wear you can read, let say the last 20 posts, which could letter become real and hard topics in the forum. It would be an easier way of expressing ones self, especially if you have an idea or you made an internet discovery that you want to share but don't know wear to do sow.

Maybe this is silly and it has already been done and I didn't hear about it, all in all, just wanted to share.

If I could make a poll that would be awesome.
Example:

[] Only for live shows
[] Daily use
[] None at all

I personally think it would be really good for live shows. I know theres a video conference chatroom which could be cool. Zadi can be the host and do whatever she does and can enable us to give feedback one at a time. So then we can all be apart of the show! Just a thought lol.

Adding a chatroom can be tricky. In my experience, chatrooms kill forums. If JetSet thinks it can sustain interest in both the chatroom AND the forums, I say go for it because chatrooms can be sweet.

Otherwise, I'd just say to keep it to live events or special occasions. ^_^
