Hydrogen fuel.

Excuse me if I'm wrong.. But do I remember correctly seeing a car fueled on hydrogen somewhere on the news some weeks ago? As a matter of fact, I'm pretty sure of it.

Eck. I think gasoline is outragious. Prices and it's pollution. Rubbish. How are the gas prices around you? Whats the lowest/highest you've seen?

But I heard something about if there were hydrogen and water powered cars and such, how would it affect the water cycle, if at all?

I'm just interested in this topic right now, and I'm interested in what you all have to say.

steve has some very good points, with big oil business pushing against this with enormous amounts of money this will take a while before we can offically see an industry for it. However BMW just announced their production of the hydrogen luxury car http://www.autobloggreen.com/2006/09/12/bmw-officially-announces-th... which will run on both hydrogen and gas.

I heard about this at Disneyland of all places they had a Hummer that ran on it but they said it was still in the works. I think if it is better on the earth than regular gas we should be slowly moving away from oil so as not to hurt the economy but moving towards newer fuel ideas.

Ya... I posted on the forums about the hydrogen cars coming out from Chevrolet.

Nobody commented. :-(

Well here in Peru gasoline is actually like 5 dollars a gallon. That is pretty expensive because we have a huge tax on petrol products. I don't know much about water powered cars, but i'm currently investigating on biofuels made from different type of natural oils.

I'll make some research on the water cycle effect that using those cars could possibly have. I can say in advance that 2 days go i saw on TV a doctor that found that water could be burned into fuel. And he uses sea water for some of his experiments and they work out. So maybe sea water will be next great fuel of humanity.

I always wonder about stuff like this. If gas is that high, do you just accept it and drive? Or does that price REALLY cut back the driving in Peru (and France, and Germany, etc)?

It really depends on the income of the person. Normally we take public transportation which is a mess. But if you have the car and a above average income you are likely to keep drving. I don't think that high gasoline prices had cut back the driving here. In fact there are more cars as the sales are really growing. So besides the high prices people keep driving here mainly because they need to drive because of work or just because it is more comfortable as public transportation is really bad.

I think that the high price strategy won't keep people away of petrol. Maybe if we can find another source like biofuels or ethanol like in brazil then people will start consuming those products which are more enviromentally friendly and cheaper than petrol.

Ok, I'd like to take some "emphasis" off my statement. I guess when gas was $3.20/gallon in America recently, $5/gallon is not "that" big of a deal.

But when gas was $1.50/gal, $5 would be a MAJOR life changing deal.

A lot of major American cities have subways and mass transit. But a lot do not (or have poor mass transit). I live in Phoenix (in Peoria actually - NW Phoenix), and my one way commute to work is 35 miles. When filling up my tank was over $50, it really made me think about other ways. Mass transit was not one of them.

Using a Circus Cannon was however! But I heard the landing could be a b!tch...

Lol!!

Yes people do star thinking of alternatives, but they don't stop driving. In these past months investments on alternative fuels had risen a lot maybe by more than 200%. We have a lot of companies making biofuel now. Which is the more likely replacement of Petrol in the short term as it can use the same engines. In brazil they use ethanol.

Also people are buying cars that are more efficient.

Diesel are more prevalent in Europe than here in the U.S. Well, at least diesel cars are. Where I live there are TONS of diesel trucks.

Biofuels work best in diesel applications.

Yes Biofuels work better in Diesel Motors.

It's really funny because they used to tell that Diesel engines were the most pollutant and now they are the ones that are suitable for biofuels.

I think that in the next 10 years there will be a huge advance in fuel technology so we can expect to have cars that work with biofuels and maybe the Hydrogen car.

I think the situation most likely to happen in the future will be car powered by lithium-ion battery

And nevertheless just 10 years ago the industry were so negative about the day they would be able to build an electric car.
Now it's gonna look like this
