Australia Signed Kyoto!

Australia's new Prime Minister Kevin Rudd (finally) signed the Kyoto protocols and handed them over the UN in Bali today. This action should hopefully put more pressure on the US to do the same. What do you think it will take to make the US government sign up to Kyoto?

I think they will eventually do it. But i guess that companies still can make a green approach and accomplish emition goals without Kyoto so i guess we dont need to put the pressure on our governments ...no matter what contry is it and put some on the companies that polute and tell them hey ...we want you to stop making harm to our enviroment and to our lifes. So Kyoto will help a lot, but maybe some people power could make companies start to adopt more eco friendly procedures.

What I think... is the Kyoto Protocol is already out of date. Hell, it was already out date after the couple years it took to write it.

Will the U.S. ever sign it? Perhaps, but not by Bush. But because its already way out of date...and the fact that there are numerous issues with it (China still being regulated like a 3rd world country for example?) it really wont matter whether we sign it anymore. And if we do it to "look better to the rest of the world" well... its too late to repair that damage.

i think that even if the U.S signs the protocol, it will be irrelevant in about a decade as the power and gas needs of growing giants india and china will take pollution levels to even greater heights....the sooner the world looks to renewable energy sources and nuclear energy the better (e.g. France)....to save the planet you have to use nuclear energy as wind and solar just cannot cope with demands

Personally, I think Kyoto city itself should try to be a little more green~ you know they still incinerate trash here? I though that was like the worst thing you could do?

On the plus side, they have tightened up trash rules, so you absolutely must split trash into recyclable cans and PET bottles vs burnables ~ all trash bags and recycling bags are see-through now too~
