WHAT!!! You mean the tomatoes in the bruchetta that i just ate were once alive!!!!? THE HORROR!!!! Seriously though, I am not a vegertarian, nor am I a vegan, but borh my best friends are and let me tell you tofu hotdogs.....they tasted a bit different from the real thing, but sort of a cool random experience.

Im guessing its about the lesser of two evils.

Animals can feel pain and emotion. As far as we know, plants can't.

i became a vegan for week (Stupid bet), no meat, milk, cheese, eggs & sodas just for the hell of it. It was like the diet from hell, i started hating food after the 3 days, the novelty wore off. There is only so much i can take, and i the first thing i ate after that dreadful week was a whole pack of bacon which felt like a piece of heaven!

I've been vegan three years, and vegetarian for seven before that.

I know plants are alive... I'm not thick.

Whether something feels or not determines if it has more or less of a right to live than another form of life?

bleh.. I'm not trying to start a flame war-and I have nothing against vegetarians or vegans-it's all a personal choice..
Just trying to gain some perspective O_O

LOL my cousin is a REAL vegan but she creeps me out so...one quick fact (Thanks to the Yr10 Science Class...BORING) anyways...CELLS make up living things...they breath oxygen...they eat food...and they feel anythig that is afflicted on them...so when you REALLY think about it...plants live to, and feel pain...SO WHEN YOU NEXT PICK UP A CARROT AND EAT IT JUST THINK ...Your killing a live THING...

I don't think cells feel pain. The reason we feel pain is due to the somatasonsory system in the brain....its really more complex that just one cell. Sorry to get so technical :P I do like my fair share of carrot cake though :)

um.. well.. I've was a vegitarian for about 2 years (since I was about 11 1/2). Just thought I had to throw that in there, everyone else did.

Plants may be, scratch that, are alive but they are not "alive" just like animals. You asked weather it had any less right then any other life form and my answer is simple.. Yes, it does have less of a right to live then lets say, a human.

Take it like this. You see a person and a carrot in the middle of the street about to get hit by a car. You can only save one, which one would you pick. I'm thinking only my 4 year old brother would pick the carrot. Most anyone would pick the carrot. Why, you ask? Because people have emotional ties with other people weather you know them or not, humans feel plants do not.
