Summer '07 is right around the corner

And believe it or not, depending on where you live, that's either a good thing or a bad one.

No joke, however, is this notion of gasoline prices. I hope Cali doesn't burn into this ocean this summer. It'll be like Venus out here...

I always am disgusted to hear people from the US bitch about petrol prices. You guys pay a pittance compared to us in the UK. Yes, our price is mostly tax, but on an end-user basis, we're paying around a quid per litre. Which works out as about $7.50 per gallon, give or take about 20 cents, unless I'm very much mistaken.

1 litre = £1.00
1 US Gallon = 3.78541 litres
1 US Gallon = £3.79
£3.79 = $7.47 (at current market rates)

END OF BITCHERY!

Yo chill, B. Mind the Gap and all that. UK is overly expensive vs. U.S. anyway, that's why I haven't hopped a Virgin Atlantic to get my pimp on down in Brixton. Plus Cali is a whole other beast, this is car culture, my dude.

I hope CA does burn into the ocean. It's cheaper to swim than to drive. I moved closer to work so now I walk to work every day. The rent is almost three times as expensive as where I used to live but I'm actually seeing more money in my pocket since I'm not shelling out a load of money every week in gas.

Yeah, the gas prices are insane... but UK prices are heart attack crazy. I once saw a video of a friend filling up her gas tank in the UK and it was over $100 US dollars. Freaking crazy.

Cali is definitely car culture. I offset it by working at home and walking to local places to eat lunch etc. I have to drive places, but I try to do that during off hours so I'm not idling in traffic. Not everyone can work from home though, so they need to find other ways to compensate.

I'm planning on getting a bike this summer... but truthfully, not sure about going long distances in a bike with the crazy drivers out here.

Cali might just burn to the ground -- all these brush fires are insane. Good thing we *do* live next to the ocean. We'll need the water. heh. :)

Here is where I want to start to do two things: lower my gas usage, and get more fitter. I live in planned community, so it should be easy. HOWEVER, the "plans" are slow in coming. They are still building a Safeway and there is office space coming. When they do open the Safeway, here's how I'll be getting groceries.

I can see this quickly turning into a 'my gas prices are higher than yours' competition. According to chicagogasprices.com you're paying about 50 cents per gallon more in Chicago than those of us in San Jose. Which I find absolutely ludicrous considering the median household income in San Jose is just over $70K/year compared to the median household income in Chicago which is just under $50K/year. Price gouging indeed.

Well I am already severely sunburnt:

But I'm very excited for the summer. Lots of plans, fun job.

And gas is down to $122.09 CA right now, which is uplifting for upcomming roadtrips.

I'm hoping it gets nice and hot here in Edinburgh again as it's got all cold and wintery again, sadly.
I miss the sun, but at least it stays light until about 2130.
