lucas gonze is a social music master

Lucas Gonze is an innovator in the social media space. He was the founder of the first web-based music playlist Webjay, which became the model for modern music sharing sites like Last.fm and iLike. Webjay was subsequently bought by Yahoo in 2006 and then sadly discontinued. Perhaps it was ahead of its time.

During his time at Yahoo, Lucas was the Director of Product Management in their music division, where he created the awesome Yahoo! Media Player and led the lineup of streaming media players, including Launchcast.

longer, stronger FU, now every tuesday

Starting next week we'll debut a longer, meatier, action-packed edition of the same EPIC FU you know and love. Because we'll be focusing on bringing you 9-10 minutes of kick ass content each and every episode, we're going to adjust our release schedule to once a week (Tuesdays @ 3pm PST).

Why the change? Lots of reasons! We're constantly trying out new things and figuring out what works best for the show. Differentiating between the Tuesday and Thursday episodes was a challenge, and we loved the richness of content that we achieve with longer episodes (e.g. the Jonathan Coulton episode). Not to mention, twice a week is somewhat of an awkward schedule - once a week just feels more natural and works better for viewers who rely on sensible schedules.

punk influenced hip-hop by doomtree

Some of you Midwestern hip hop fans may already be familiar with the Minneapolis-based collective known as Doomtree. I guess it's fitting we spotlight the group as the RNC rages on in Minneapolis-St. Paul.

Even though Doomtree just independently released their self-titled debut album this summer, many of the group's 5 emcees and 6 DJs/producers have been part of the hip hop scene for years, particularly in the Twin Cities area. Given the size of the crew, it's hard to get them all together in the same place at the same time for a gig, but every December they gather for the annual Doomtree Blowout.
